BENNINGTON, Vt. — The Southern Vermont College women's volleyball team opened up the 2015 season Saturday evening, topping Green Mountain College 3-1 on the road in non-conference action at the Eagle Dome.
The Mountaineers fell 25-17 in the opening set but bounced back to win the next three by scores of 25-12, 25-23, and 25-10.
With the win in its first meeting against Green Mountain (0-2) since 2011, SVC (1-0) now owns a 6-5 all-time series lead between the two programs.
Southern Vermont next plays on Thursday, September 10 at Castleton University, first serve scheduled for 7 p.m.
Mountaineer junior Brin Goldman (Christiansted, Virgin Islands) tallied a triple-double, recording match-bests of 12 kills, 15 digs, and 11 service aces. SVC served up 25 aces on the night, six coming from senior setter Sheilani Kaleopa (Riverside, Calif.) who also registered 15 assists.
Freshman Alycia Stevens (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) recorded 11 kills and 10 digs in the win while classmate Lizzy Bench (Saint Petersburg, Fla.) totaled 11 digs and five service aces for Southern Vermont.
The Mountaineers only had a single hitting error in the final set while racking up eight kills on 22 swings for a match-best .318 attack percentage.
