BRUNSWICK, Maine- Elms College and Eastern Nazarene College men's cross country teams competed at the NCAA Regional Championships Saturday afternoon at Bowdoin College, while Elms also competed on the women's side.
The 2019 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Male Cross Country Athlete of the Year, Elms' Ricky Elmer paced the Blazers, crossing the finish line at 29:01. Rich Hernandez finished at 31:08, while Brendan Curley finished at 33:22.
For Eastern Nazarene, Robert Gorman crossed the finish line in 29:48.61 to lead the Lions. Ryan Polsgrove clocked in with a time of 31:27.10 on the 8K course.
Kyandre Martinez posted a season-best mark of 33:10.58
Mitchell College freshman Evan Carney competed as an individual, completing the 8k course in a time of 30:31.20. He was the first Mitchell runner to race in the event since 2012.
The race capped an impressive season for the rookie runner as he was also tabbed the NECC Rookie of the Year.
Williams College ran away with the team title as six Ephs' runners finished in the top-9 of the 365-runner field.
On the women's side, Elms was the lone NECC competitor. Freshman Margaret Mathon led the Blazers with a 26:48 finish. Tyana Medina finished at 27:52, while Julia Trezza came across at 27:58 and Emily Guillerault finished at 28:07.
Williams also took home the women's team title, with three runners finishing in the top-10.
ABOUT THE NECC
The NECC began competition in the 2008-09 academic year and current member institutions compete across 15 sports. The NECC membership focuses on providing athletic competition among institutions that share similar academic aspirations and are committed to the importance of the total educational experience for students engaged in sports. Current members include Bay Path University, Becker College, Dean College, Eastern Nazarene College, Elms College, Lesley University, Mitchell College and New England College.
