WESTON, Mass. - The Nighthawks of Newbury College claimed the Men's and Women's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Track & Field titles after their performances this weekend. The NECC Championship was held in conjunction with the GNAC/NAC/NECC Alliance Championship at Regis College.
Newbury claimed the Women's title with 222 total points. Elms College finished second with 62 points and Lesley posted 39 points for a third place finish. The Eastern Nazarene women posted 34 points on the day to finish fourth.
On the men's side the Nighthawks posted 244 points with Eastern Nazarene coming in second with 135 points. Third place Elms posted 54 points and Lesley combined for 12 points to finish fourth. Southern Vermont College rounded out the field in fifth place.
Newbury's women were the NECC's top finisher in the GNAC/NAC/NECC Alliance Championship at eighth place, scoring 39.25 total points. The Eastern Nazarene men were the league's top finisher in the Alliance Championship, coming in eighth overall with 28 total points. SUNY Delhi captured the men's and women's titles in the GNAC/NAC/NECC Alliance Championship.
The top NECC finisher in each event will be recognized as an All-Conference honoree. Those accolades, along with the Track Athlete, Field Athlete, Rookie and Coach of the Year in each gender will be announced later this week.
