QUINCY, Mass.- Senior right-handed pitcher Daniel Rivera (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) of the Eastern Nazarene College baseball team has been tabbed to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week, announced the organization earlier this week.
Rivera hurled a complete-game shutout to propel the Lions to a 2-0 victory over Wentworth in game two of the team's season-opening doubleheader. He racked up a career-high 13 strikeouts while surrendering zero walks and just three singles.
Rivera's performance was the first complete game outing of his career and his sixth career start on the hill. The senior's 13 strikeouts are the most in a single game since Jeremy Cook fanned 17 batters April 27, 2012 as Eastern Nazarene routed Gordon 14-1.
In 27 career pitching appearances, Rivera has compiled a 3-3 record with two saves. He has notched 68 career strikeouts in 49.1 innings on the mound.
Eastern Nazarene sports a 3-0 overall record on the spring and will face Manhattanville in a doubleheader March 1 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
