165 Student-Athletes Earn Fall Academic All-Conference Accolades

ATTLEBORO, Mass.- A total of 165 student-athletes have been named to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Academic All-Conference team for the 2017 Fall Semester, as announced by the conference office on Friday morning.

In order to be eligible for NECC Academic All-Conference, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade point average of 3.40 on a scale of 4.00, and must be a sophomore or higher in class standings. Student-athletes who competed in Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Field Hockey, Golf, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, and Women’s Volleyball were eligible for fall NECC academic honors.

This year’s honorees included three conference major award winners, the Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Year, Cassidy Smith (South Berwick, Maine), the Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year, Melissa Mascari (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and the Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year, Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, Mass.). Smith, Mascari and Deluga were also first-team All-NECC selections in their respective sports, and are joined on the All-Academic team by 16 other first team All-Conference members. In addition, 14 second team and three third team selections were honored, along with 20 sportsmanship team members.

Women’s Soccer saw the highest number of All-Academic honorees, with 55. Lesley University led the pack with 15 Women’s Soccer student-athletes named to to the All-Academic team, and 33 overall honorees. Elms College was right behind with 32 overall honorees.
