NECC Senior Class of the Week: New England College Baseball

This week’s senior class of the week hails from New England College. The Pilgrims are coming off perhaps their best year in program history, taking home the 2019 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) baseball title in their first year in the league. They made their program’s first appearance in the NCAA Championship, reaching the Super Regionals. NEC finished the year with 29 wins, the most in program history and attained their first national ranking, finishing the season ranked No. 23 in the poll, and No. 28 in the final American Baseball Coaches Association poll. The ‘Grims will graduate eight players, all who have made a significant impact on the program during their time.

Luis Atiles (Roxbury, Mass) entered his senior campaign with a career batting average of .319, tallying 28 doubles, three triples and five home runs. The shortstop was a first team All-NECC performer in 2019. He also received All-North Atlantic Conference honors in his rookie season. Atiles started the 2020 season hot, hitting .389 through 36 at-bats, with two doubles, a triple and two home runs.

Jameson Carey (Amherst, Mass.) came into his senior season hitting at a career .269 clip. The utility player and pitcher had made 32 appearances, with a 13-9 record and a 3.68 ERA through his junior season. In 2020, the senior was hitting .389 in 18 at-bats. He led the Pilgrims with 12 innings pitched, tallying 13 strikeouts and a 1-1 record.

Pitcher Selah Delomba (Amherst, Mass.) had pitched 52 innings entering his senior year, posting a 3-3 record and tallying one save. Delomba had made two appearances in 2020, picking up a win over Manhattanville.

Clifford Guerrero (Boston, Mass.) had 17 at-bats in 2020, hitting a double and tallying four RBI. The catcher/outfielder entered the year with 21 at-bats under his belt, scoring 12 runs and knocking in three.

Pitcher Joseph Pascucci (Wayne, N.J.) posted an 8-8 record in his first three seasons for the Pilgrims, with 64 strikeouts in 83 innings pitched. He had made two appearances in 2020, pitching nine innings and striking out 11.

Pitcher Cameron Sullivan (Middletown, R.I.) pitched 4.1 innings in 2019, striking out three. The senior made two appearances in 2020, striking out two.   

Joe Maestu (Naples, Fla.) entered the season with a career batting average of .239, including six doubles, a triple and two home runs. The catcher was off to a hot start in 2020, hitting .318 and three doubles and a home run before the season was cut short.  

Jamel Vilmont (Everett, Mass.) transferred from Framingham State, where he had 11 at-bats and two hits as an outfielder.  


The NECC began competition in the 2008-09 academic year and current member institutions compete across 15 sports. The NECC membership focuses on providing athletic competition among institutions that share similar academic aspirations and are committed to the importance of the total educational experience for students engaged in sports. Current members include Bay Path University, Becker College, Dean College, Eastern Nazarene College, Elms College, Lesley University, Mitchell College and New England College.
