Senior Class of the Week: Becker College Baseball

Mansfield, Mass.- This week's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Senior Class of the Week goes to the Becker College baseball team. The Hawks senior class of 2020 reached the NECC tournament in each of their first three seasons. 

Ben Mazzone (Bristol, Conn.)

Mazzone played in a total of 85 games in his three years with the Becker baseball team.  The senior has seen 261 at-bats and has totaled 35 runs, 55 hits, seven doubles and 29 RBI.  He has stolen eight bases throughout his career.  In 12 games played this season, he has registered eight hits, including one double, and logged a .242 batting average with a team-best seven RBI.

 

Eric-Tyler Trahan (Bristol, Conn.)

Trahan has been a four-year member of the baseball team and has pitched a total of 46 innings in 33 appearances with one start.  He has struck out a total of 23 batters throughout his career.  Trahan concludes his career with a 1-2 record. 

 

Dewayne Thomas (Lowell, Mass.)

Thomas has been a three-year member of the Hawks’ baseball team.  In 21 games played, Thomas has registered five hits, including a triple against Brandeis in 2019.  He has totaled two RBI and five stolen bases.  Thomas finishes his career with a .227 career batting average.

 

Jack Snyder (Shrewsbury, Mass.)

Snyder, a three-year pitcher for the baseball team, has pitched 68.1 innings in 30 appearances, with seven starts.  In 30 appearances, he has struck out 48 batters.  This season he currently held a 6.00 ERA in two appearances, and nine innings pitched.  He finishes his career at Becker with a 2-5 record.

 

Michael McMahon (Canton, Mass.)

McMahon, a two-year captain, has been a four-year member of the Becker College baseball team and has played in a total of 66 games.  The senior finishes his career with a .311 batting average and a .388 on-base percentage.  His career totals are: 27 runs, 51 hits, 12 doubles, one home run, 27 RBI, and five stolen bases.  This season he was leading his team in batting average (.429), on-base percentage (.474), slugging percentage (.543) and hits (15).  Off the field, McMahon excels academically as last year he was just the third-ever Hawk to receive CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in 2019.  He also was named to the Academic All-Conference team each year.  He was awarded the team’s Coach’s Award in 2018.

 

Michael Martinez (Raleigh, N.C.) 

Martinez, a 2020 team captain, has been a four-year pitcher for the Hawks’ baseball team.  Throughout his career, Martinez has made 30 appearances, including 13 starts, and pitched a total of 77.2 innings.  He has struck out 59 batters in his career, and finishes his Becker career with a 9.04 ERA. 

 

Rob Pellerin (Gorham, Maine)

Pellerin, in his first season with the baseball team following a four-year career with the Becker football team, recorded his first collegiate hit against Colby-Sawyer on March 7.  He finishes his baseball career with two RBI – one against the Chargers, and another against Olivet on March 10.

The NECC began competition in the 2008-09 academic year and current member institutions compete across 16 sports. The NECC membership focuses on providing athletic competition among institutions that share similar academic aspirations and are committed to the importance of the total educational experience for students engaged in sports. Current members include Bay Path University, Becker College, Dean College, Eastern Nazarene College, Elms College, Lesley University, Mitchell College and New England College.
