NECC to Host NBA 2K Esports Championship Tournaments

NECC to Host NBA 2K Esports Championship Tournaments

REGISTRATION

Mansfield, Mass. – The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) is proud to announce its next esports championship, as the league will host NBA2K Championship Tournaments. The single-elimination tournaments, which will begin later this month, will aim to decide who are the best 2K players in the conference. The tournaments are open to all NECC students and we will crown champions in both PS4 and Xbox.

Following the COVID-19 outbreak the conference has been working with its membership to help try and fill the void that has been left due to the cancellation of the spring season.

“We recently wrapped up our NECC Madden Championships and thought they went really well. The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive and we’re excited to host our next esports championships,” said NECC Commissioner Jacob VanRyn.

The NECC’s NBA2K Tournament will be single-elimination championships contested on PS4 and Xbox gaming consoles. It will be promoted and recognized the same way as other currently-sponsored NECC sports would be. The conference is planning on broadcasting the championship final and will recognize the champion similarly to how it would any of its other sports.

Earlier this year, the NECC announced its intention to begin officially sponsoring esports during the 2020-21 academic year. “The pandemic obviously changed everything and altered our timeline rather drastically,” said VanRyn. “We’ve had numerous discussions about what we could do to continue to provide competitive opportunities for our NECC family during this time and we thought this would be one thing we could offer. I’m excited about this effort and hope it’s the first of many tournaments we host.”

Competitors interested in registering for the NECC’s NBA2K Tournaments can do so HERE.

Registration for the Tournaments will run from Thursday, June 11 and run through Tuesday, June 17. The competitors will be notified of their opponents following the creation of the brackets. The tournaments will be contested using NBA2K and the NECC will provide updates throughout the event on its Twitter and Instagram accounts (@NECCathletics).
