Newbury Leads NECC Men's Champions Cup Standings; NEC Leads the Women

Marshfield, Mass. – After the completion of the winter championship season, the Newbury College men remain in the lead in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Champions Cup standings with a score of .729. The Nighthawks put together a string of upsets to reach the 2019 Men’s Basketball Championship game. Newbury also had an impressive fall season, earning the regular season men’s soccer title, as well as their first-ever NECC Men’s Soccer Championship. They also added a fourth place finish in cross country to boost their overall standings.      

On the women’s side, New England College is also holding on to the top spot, after winning the 2019 NECC Women’s Basketball Championship, as well as a share of the regular season title. The Pilgrims also claimed the regular season field hockey title and were the runner-up in both regular season and postseason soccer. They have completed the winter season with a score of .754. 

Landing in second in the women’s standings is Eastern Nazarene College, moving up in the standings with a score of .672. The Lions finished fourth in the regular season basketball standings, and reached the conference tournament semifinals.  They concluded the fall season with a share of the women’s volleyball regular season title, and a second place finish in postseason play.

Mitchell College stays in the second place spot on the men’s side with a score of .713, seeing a boost in their score after winning the 2019 NECC Men’s Basketball title. The Mariners also finished as the runner-up in both regular season and postseason men’s soccer play.

The New England College men parlayed the regular season NECC men’s basketball crown into a jump up to the third place slot. The Becker College women also land in the third spot, as they also took a share of the regular season NECC women’s basketball title to move up in the Champions Cup standings.
