Mitchell Men Claim 2018-19 NECC Champions Cup; NEC Takes the Women's Cup

Marshfield, MASS. – For the second consecutive year, the Mitchell College men have claimed the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Champions Cup.  On the women’s side, New England College took the Cup in their first season as members of the NECC.

Heading into the spring season in second place, the Mitchell men parlayed their regular season baseball title into the first place spot with a score of .754. The Mariners also had a second place finish in postseason play. Mitchell won the NECC Men’s Basketball Championship, and were runner-ups in both regular season and postseason soccer play.   

The New England College women maintained the top spot throughout the year, and finished with a score of .798.  The spring season saw the Pilgrims win the NECC Women’s Lacrosse title, while also finishing in second place in regular season standings. They also had a second place finish in postseason and regular season softball. The Pilgrims won the 2019 NECC Women’s Basketball Championship, their first in the NECC, and shared the regular season crown. In the fall, the Pilgrims claimed the regular season field hockey title and were the runner-up in both regular season and postseason soccer.

Landing in second in the women’s standings is fellow newcomer to the conference, Eastern Nazarene College, with a score of .706. The Lions won the 2019 NECC Softball Championship, while also taking the top spot in the regular season standings. Eastern Nazarene finished fourth in the regular season basketball standings, and reached the conference tournament semifinals.  They concluded the fall season with a share of the women’s volleyball regular season title, and a second place finish in postseason play.

New England College took the second place spot on the men’s side, moving up in the standings following their upset victory in the 2019 NECC Baseball Championship. They were second place finishers in the regular season. The Pilgrims also took a share of the regular season NECC men’s basketball crown, completing the year with a score of .731.

The Eastern Nazarene men finished their first year in the NECC in third place, finishing with a score of .622. In the spring season, the Lions had a third place finish in the baseball regular season standings, while the basketball team had a second place regular season finish in the winter. The Lions’ soccer team also finished third in their regular season.

The Becker College women landed in the third spot, parlaying first place regular season finishes in lacrosse and basketball to end the year with a score of .679.
