Daniel Webster Chosen Preseason Favorite to Win NECC Women’s Volleyball Title

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Daniel Webster College has been tabbed as the preseason favorite to capture the New England Collegiate Conference women’s volleyball championship, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. Voting for the preseason poll was conducted among the NECC’s head women’s volleyball coaches.

Eight of the nine NECC members sponsor women’s volleyball.

The Daniel Webster College Eagles (16-6, 7-0) received seven of the eight first-place votes in the 2010 NECC preseason poll. The Eagles are led by head coach Braden Zamore. Daniel Webster returns three all-conference members including the 2009 NECC Rookie of the Year sophomore Chelsey Crawford (Westfield, Mass.), sophomore Samantha Hill (Hudson, N.H.) and junior Caitlyn DePierro (Billerica, Mass.).

Newbury College received one first-place vote to notch the runner-up spot with 47 points.  Lesley University received 42 points to place third. Elms College and Mitchell College rounded out the top five places with Elms receiving 41 points and Mitchell with 37 points.

Teams received eight points for every first place vote received, seven points for second place votes, six points for third place votes, down to one point for a last place vote. First place votes are shown in parentheses.
