Becker Tops NECC Women’s Tennis Preseason Poll

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Becker College has been tabbed as the preseason favorite to capture the New England Collegiate Conference women’s tennis championship, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. Voting for the preseason poll was conducted among the NECC’s head women’s tennis coaches.

Five of the nine NECC members sponsor women’s tennis.

The Becker Hawks (13-5, 7-1 NECC) received four of the five first-place votes in the 2010 NECC preseason poll. The 2009 champs are led by head coach David Bostick. The Hawks return three all-conference members in junior Laura Mimms (Ashland, Mass.), senior Danielle Stryker (Ledyard, Conn.) and junior Shauna McNally (Worcester, Mass).

Bay Path College received one first-place vote with 21 points to claim the second spot. Lesley University was third with 12 points while Mitchell College nabbed fourth place with 10 points.

Newbury College rounded out the field with 8 points.

Teams received five points for every first place vote received, four points for second place votes, three points for third place votes, down to one point for a last place vote. First place votes are shown in parentheses.
