2010 NECC Women’s Soccer Championship Pairings Announced
ATTLEBORO, Mass.- Defending 2009 Champions Lesley University has claimed the top seed for the 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Soccer Championship, which begins with quarterfinal matchups on campus sites Tuesday, November 2nd . The Lynx (11-5-2 overall) earned the top spot in the upcoming NECC tournament after posting a 7-0-1 conference record.
The 2009 runners up, the Mitchell College Mariners (8-7-1 overall), earned the #2 spot, finishing their NECC play at 6-1-1 for the 2010 season. The 2008 NECC champions, the Elms College Blazers (8-9-0 overall), claimed the #3 seed going 6-2 in conference play. The Daniel Webster College Eagles (5-8-3 overall) notched the #4 seed, earning the final spot to host a tournament match with a 4-3-1 conference record.
Both the Newbury College Nighthawks and the Daniel Webster College Eagles tied for fourth place with a 4-3-1 conference record. Daniel Webster defeated Newbury in head-to-head competition, so Newbury will take the #5 seed. Rounding out the spots is the #6 seed, the Hawks of Becker College (5-13-0) with a 3-5-0 conference record. Again, Becker tied with Bay Path College in conference play, but beat them in head-to-head competition to claim the tournament’s final spot.
Both Lesley and Mitchell earned byes in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday, November 2nd. #6 Becker will travel to #3 Elms in Chicopee, Mass. for a 7:00 p.m. start. #5 Newbury will travel to #4 Daniel Webster in Nashua, N.H. for a 2:00 p.m. start.
The semifinals will be held on Thursday, November 4th and the 2010 NECC Championship match will take place on Saturday, November 6th at 1:00 p.m. The higher seeds earn the opportunity to host the semifinals and championship matches. All published times are subject to change.
