2009 NECC Women’s Soccer Championship Pairings Announced


ATTLEBORO, Mass.-Lesley University has claimed the top seed for the 2009 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Soccer Championship, which begins with quarterfinal matchups on campus sites Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. The Lynx (13-4-1 overall) earned the top spot in the upcoming NECC tournament after posting a perfect 8-0 conference record.

The Elms College Blazers (9-8-1 overall) claimed the #2 seed going 7-1 in conference play. The Mitchell College Mariners (6-10 overall) earned the #3 spot, finishing their NECC play at 6-2 for the 2009 season. The Becker College Hawks (10-7 overall) notched the #4 seed, earning the final spot to host a tournament match with a 5-3 conference record.

Both the Newbury College Nighthawks and the Daniel Webster College Eagles tied for fifth in conference action each with a 3-5 record earning the final two seeds in the 2009 championship.

As specified in the NECC women's soccer championship guidelines, a two-way tie will be broken first by head-to-head results. Newbury defeated Daniel Webster 1-0 on October 17 which gives the Nighthawks the #5 seed. The Eagles notched the final spot at the #6 seed in a conference of nine sponsored programs.

Both Elms and Lesley earned the byes in the quarterfinal matches on Tuesday, November 3. #6 Daniel Webster will travel to #3 Mitchell in New London, Conn. for a 2:00 p.m. start. #5 Newbury will travel to #4 Becker in Leicester, Mass. for a 4:00 p.m. start.

The semifinals will be held on Thursday, November 5 and the 2009 NECC Championship match will take place on Saturday, November 7 at either 1:00 or 2:00 p.m. The higher seeds earn the opportunity to host the semifinals and championship matches. All published times are subject to change.
