2008 NECC Women’s Soccer Championships Pairings Announced
ATTLEBORO, Mass.--Elms has claimed the top seed for the 2008 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Soccer Championship, which begins with quarterfinal matchups on campus sites Wednesday afternoon at 2:00/ 4:00 p.m. The Blazers (9-7 overall) earned the top spot in the upcoming NECC tournament after posting a perfect 8-0 conference record.
The Lesley Lynx (15-3-1overall) claimed the #2 seed going 7-1 in conference play. The Becker Hawks (6-9-1 overall) earned the #3 spot finishing their NECC play at 5-2-1 for the 2008 season. The Daniel Webster Eagles (7-8 overall) notched the #4 seed earning the final spot to host a tournament match with a 5-3 conference record.
Both the Bay Path Wildcats and the Mitchell Mariners tied for fifth in conference action each with a 3-4-1 record earning the final two seeds in the 2008 championships.
As specified in the NECC women's soccer championships guidelines, a two-way tie will be broken first by head-to-head results. Bay Path defeated Mitchell 3-1 on October 25 which gives the Wildcats the #5 seed. Mitchell notches the final spot at the #6 seed in a conference of nine sponsored programs.
Both Elms and Lesley earn the bye in the quarterfinal matches on Wednesday, October 29. #6 Mitchell will travel to #3 Becker in Leicester, Mass. for a 4:00 p.m. start-time under lights.#5 Bay Path will travel to #4 Daniel Webster in Nashua, N.H. for a 2:00 p.m. start.
The semifinals will be held on Saturday, November 1and the 2008 NECC Championship match will take place a week later of Saturday, November 8 at 1:00 p.m. The higher seeds earn the opportunity to host the semifinals and championship matches.
