Bosques and Fields Named Women's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass.--Daniel Webster sophomore guard Vanessa Bosques (Windham, Conn.) led the Eagles to a 3-0 week continuing their NECC undefeated streak at 11-0 and their programs best record. Bosques averaged 20.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.7 steals for the week. For the week, she shot 49% (20-for-41) from the field, 50% (13-for-26) from the arc and 100% (8-for-8) from the charity stripe.

OConnell Makes Newbury History For Women's Basketball

BROOKLINE, Mass.--Newbury College Womens Basketball Center, Catherine OConnell (Quincy, MA), made history this week earning both NECC Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, NEWBA (New England Womens Basketball Assoc) Rookie of the Week and Division 3 hoops Team of the Week (Center). OConnell was the first Newbury Womens Basketball player to ever be named to all 4 awards in one single week and the first to be named to the D 3 hoops Team of the Week in school history.

OConnell produced two double-double performances in a 1-1 week for the Nighthawks. She tied her career game-high with 19 boards in a 62-61 victory over Rivier and broke it with 23 rebounds in a close 73-68 loss to top seeded Daniel Webster College. OConnell averaged 18.5 points, 21.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 2.0 steals for the week. For the two game series, she shot 59% (16-for-27) from the field and 42% (5-for-12) from the charity stripe.

The names of Sarah Brown and Sherard Robbins were etched into the Wheelock record books over the past two weeks, as the two senior basketball stars scored the 1,000th point of their respective careers just three days apart. Robbins reached his mark during a home win against Southern Vermont College, becoming the first mens basketball player to reach the milestone, while Brown drilled a triple at Becker College to become only the third womens player to do so.
