Bosques, Cerruto and O'Connell Share Final Women's Basketball Weekly Honors
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Daniel Webster College sophomore guard Vanessa Bosques (Windham, Conn.) led the Eagles to a 2-0 week, clinching the #1 seed and the right to host the 2009-10 NECC Women's Basketball Championship. Bosques averaged 17.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.0 steals for the week. She nabbed her career-high 12 rebounds against Newbury followed by the game-high 18 points against Bay Path. For the final two regular season games, she shot 43% (13-for-30) from the field, 33% (4-for-12) from the arc and 100% (5-for-5) from the charity stripe.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK -Newbury College freshman center Catherine O'Connell (Quincy, Mass.) nabs the final weekly rookie honors. The Nighthawks finished 1-2 on the week, grabbing the sixth and final seed in the tournament. For the week, she shot 45% (13-for-29) from the field and 56% (5-for-9) from the line.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK -Mitchell College freshman guard Kaylee Cerruto (Torrington, Conn.) guided the Mariners to a 2-1 week, defeating both conference opponents Newbury (62-51) and Becker (64-50) and falling to Coast Guard (59-56). She scored 16 points, nailing a 67% shooting percentage against Newbury. Cerruto managed 9.7 points per game, 2.3 rebounds per game, 1.3 assists per game and 1.7 steals per game. For the week, she shot 44% (10-for-23) from the field, 33% (3-for-9) from downtown and 100% (6-for-6) from the line.
