McBride, Meeker and Robie Awarded Final Softball Weekly Honors
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Elms College senior outfielder Alison McBride (East Providence, R.I.) batted .571 (12-for-21) with five runs, nine RBI and one homerun. McBride and the Blazers finished regular season play with a 6-2 weekly record notching the #2 seed in the 2011 NECC Softball Championship Tournament earning the first round bye. McBride hit safely in all but one contest including two multiple hit games. She slugged .714 and had a .625 on base percentage.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK –Elms College senior pitcher Destinee Meeker (Bantam, Conn.) tossed 23.1 innings notching a mere 0.60 ERA. Meeker only allowed two runs on 16 hits. Meeker fanned 17 and scattered four walks and one wild pitch. She went 3-1 on the week with one save against Becker.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Newbury College freshman infielder Joanna Robie (Andover, Mass.) hit safely in all five games this week including four multiple hit games for the Nighthawks. Robie was a force for Newbury at the plate batting .667 (12-for-18), slugging 1.056 and posting a .650 on base percentage. She hit for the cycle with two doubles, one triple and one homerun. Robie also notched a win in the circle against Southern Vermont this past week.
