Gates, Knox and Crawford Named Softball NECC Player, Pitcher and Rookie of the Week

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Bay Path senior shortstop/outfielder Sarah Gates (Crown Point, Ind.) led the Wildcats to a 4-0 conference sweep of Southern Vermont 3-2, 9-1 and Daniel Webster 16-15, 9-8.  Gates batted .625 (10-for-16), slugged .938 and had a .700 on-base percentage. She had multiple hits in all four games including scoring two game winners and notching the game winning RBI in another. Gates notched three doubles and one single. She was perfect in fielding with eight put-outs and one assist. She went 4-for-5 with four RBI and five runs in the valiant eleven inning victory over the Eagles.

 

 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Once again, Lesley University sophomore Cassandra Knox (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) was honored as the NECC Pitcher of the Week.  Knox hurled 27 innings going 4-0 on the week for the Lynx. Lesley finished the week 4-1 with Knox notching a no decision in the loss against Framingham State. She finished with a 1.00 ERA. Knox fanned 20 batters while only walking five for the week.

 

 

 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Daniel Webster College freshman centerfielder Chelsey Crawford (Westfield, Mass.) batted .433 (13-for-30) with 16 RBI, nine  runs, two doubles, one triple and one homerun. She helped the Eagles to a 4-4 weekly conference record. She finished with a solid .767 slugging percentage and a .424 on-base percentage. Crawford also notched three stolen bases and had a perfect fielding percentage with 19 put-outs.
