Thomas and Martin Named Men's Volleyball Player and Rookie of the Week
PLAYER OF THE WEEK —Newbury College senior outside hitter Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, Mass.) led the Nighthawks to their first New England Collegiate Conference Men’s Volleyball Championship title. Thomas was named the tournament MVP for his efforts. He tallied 63 kills on the week averaging 4.2 kills per set with a .344 attack percentage. Thomas also averaged 2.06 digs per set and .93 blocks per set. Newbury went 3-1 on the week including the semifinal win against Elms 3-0 and a 3-0 win against Daniel Webster in the championship match.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK —Elms College sophomore setter Mike Martin (Enfield, Conn.) helped the Blazers to a 1-2 week, while recently being named the 2010 NECC Rookie of the Year. Martin dished out 60 assists averaging 6.67 per set. Martin also averaged 1.89 digs per set and .44 blocks per set, while hitting .533 on the week.
