Carmona and Linhares Awarded Tennis Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Mitchell College junior Kyle Carmona (Norwich, Conn.) led the Mariners to a pair of 9-0 wins over regional opponent Albertus Magnus and NECC rival Wheelock this past week. Carmona went 2-0 in #1 singles play and 2-0 in #1 doubles action with partner Rocco Devona. Carmona and Devona took their two matches 8-1and 8-4. Against the Falcons’ Marcus Artaiz he won 6-2, 6-2 and in conference play Carmona downed the Wildcats’ Wilson Change 6-0, 6-0 without dropping a set.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Wheelock College freshman Tyler Linhares (Central Falls, R.I.) finished 1-1 in #3 singles action and 1-1 in #2 doubles play for the Wildcats. Wheelock went 1-2 on the week with Linhares playing in only two of the three matches. He won a tough match in the win over conference rival Newbury’s Jarryl McKey 6-4, 6-7, 6-3, while falling to Mitchell’s Adam Samuels 6-3, 6-2. In doubles action, partnered with last week’s rookie winner Claire O’Donoghue defeated the Nighthawks’ Gerard Font-Raventos and Marc Jean-Jacques 8-2 and fell to the Mariners’ Tyler Engleberg and Alex Fusco 8-3.
