Mattox and O'Donoghue Earn Weekly Tennis Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Lesley University sophomore Nick Mattox (Pasadena, Md.) helped the Lynx to a 3-0 week including sweeps of NECC rivals Becker 9-0 and Newbury 9-0 and a 5-4 victory over Regis. Mattox went 3-0 in #2 singles action and 2-1 in #2 double action.  He took two conference opponents in Newbury’s Jarryl McKey 6-0, 6-1 and a tough match against Becker’s Tim Howard in tie-break fashion 6-2, 6-7, 8-6 (6-3). He also put the Lynx a point over to defeat Regis 5-4 winning 6-3, 6-4 against Jeff Parrish.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Wheelock College freshman Claire O’Donoghue (East Haven, Conn.) went 2-2 on the week earning one #5 singles victory and #2 doubles win against NECC rival Newbury. The Wildcats defeated the Nighthawks 8-1 and fell to fellow conference member Becker 7-2. In the #5 singles win O’Donoghue won 6-1, 6-0 and won the #2 doubles 8-6 with partner Tyler Linhares. She helped Wheelock pick up its first victory of 2011.
