Mariners' Carmona and Devona Sweep Men's Tennis Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Mitchell College sophomore Kyle Carmona (Norwich, Conn.) led the Mariners to another 2-0 week defeating NECC opponents Wheelock 9-0 and Lesley 8-1. While pairing with rookie winner Rocco Devona, the tandem defeated the Wildcats’ Wilson Chang and Robert Venning 8-2 and the Lynx’ pair of David Newton and Alex Zhitnik 8-0 in the #1 doubles position. Carmona also went 1-0 in #1 singles defeating Chang 6-2, 6-0 and a tough match against Newton 6-1, 7-5.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK –Mitchell College freshman Rocco Devona (Waterford, Conn.) again earned rookie honors helping the Mariners to a 2-0 NECC week.  While pairing with player of the Week Carmona, the tandem defeated the Wildcats’ Wilson Chang and Robert Venning 8-2 and the Lynx’ pair of David Newton and Alex Zhitnik 8-0 in the #1 doubles position.  He also shut-out the Wildcats’ Katherine Needham 6-0, 6-0 and beat the Lynx’ Nick Mattox 6-1, 6-1 in the #2 singles spot.
