Devona and Mattox Grab Player and Rookie Tennis Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – After two straight weeks of rookie honors, Mitchell College freshman Rocco Devona (Waterford, Conn.) earned his first NECC Player of the Week nod. Devona led the Mariners to a 2-0 week defeating Johnson & Wales 7-1 and NECC rival Becker 8-1. Devona partnered with both Tyler Engleberg and Kyle Carmona in #1 doubles winning 9-7 and 8-2 respectively. He also shut-out the Wildcats’ Gino Richter 6-0, 6-0 and the Hawks’ Snejezan Telebak 6-1, 3-0 (ret.).

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Lesley University freshman Nick Mattox (Pasadena, Md.) earned conference rookie honors helping the Lynx to a conference 2-0 week.  While pairing with Christian Domingo, the tandem defeated Becker players Jake Gilbert and Snejezan Telebak 8-2 and the Nighthawks’ pair of Ben Weiner and Matt Foley 8-2 in the #2 doubles position. Mattox also went 2-0 with straight set singles victories.
