Mitchell Repeats as the 2010 NECC Men’s Tennis Champions and Hosts Flighted Tournaments

ATTLEBORO, Mass.—Once again, the Mariners of Mitchell College grabbed The 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men’s tennis championship title. The Mariners (10-0 overall) claimed the top spot after posting a perfect 8-0 NECC record in conference play.

The Mariners are led by Head Coach Rick Carmona, the 2009 NECC Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year and the 2008 NECC Women’s Head Tennis Coach of the Year. Sophomore Kyle Carmona (Norwich, Conn.), the 2009 Player of the Year, and freshman Rocco Devona (Waterford, Conn.) have led the way all season for the Mariners.  Devona has produced a perfect record at 10-0 at the #2/#3 spot while Carmona has also remained undefeated at 9-0 at #1 singles. Carmona and Devona have paired for a 9-0 record in the #1 doubles action. Devona paired with sophomore Tyler Engleberg (Niantic, Conn.) for a 1-0 record at the #1 spot. Engleberg, the 2009 Rookie of the Year, finished regular season with a 6-0 overall singles record and 5-1 in doubles.

The Lynx of Lesley University (7-2, 6-2) earned the 2010 NECC men’s tennis runners-up plaque. The Hawks of Becker College (4-9, 4-4) finished in third place in the NECC.

The Wildcats of Wheelock (1-9, 2-6) and the Nighthawks of Newbury (0-12, 0-8) finished fourth and fifth in the conference play.

The 2010 NECC Men’s Tennis Championship is determined solely on regular season conference matches.
