Babson Chosen Preseason Favorite to Win NECC Golf Title
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Babson College has been tabbed as the preseason favorite to capture the New England Collegiate Conference men’s golf championship, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. Voting for the preseason poll was conducted among the NECC’s head golf coaches.
Five of the nine NECC full members sponsor men’s golf, while Babson and Springfield are associate members of the New England Collegiate Conference.
The Babson Beavers received three of the seven first-place votes in the 2010 NECC preseason poll. The Beavers are led by head coach Mike Vassalotti, who heads into his 27th season. Babson captured the 2009 NECC title in their first season of membership. Senior duffer Bryan Eger (Marion, Mass.) returns after receiving the 2009 Player of the Year honors. Fellow first team all NECC members junior Camilo Perlaza (Cali, Columbia) and junior Joseph Young (Westwood, Mass.) along with second team member senior Matt Foley (East Longmeadow, Mass.) also return this season.
Elms College and Springfield College tied the runner up position with 27 points and each had one first-place vote. Becker College nabbed the number four spot with 22 points. Daniel Webster College and Mitchell College rounded out the top five each with 13 points.
Teams received seven points for every first place vote received, six points for second place votes, five points for third place votes, down to one point for a last place vote. First place votes are shown in parentheses.
