Hanson Hits His Thousandth As Eagles Fall In Ryan Tourney Final, 78-77

Lewiston, Maine - Junior Chris Hanson (Salem, Mass.) notched 27 points including the 1,000th of his career in the first half and Chris Voukides (Salem, N.H.) added 22 points, but host Thomas College overcame a five-point deficit to score the final six points and escape with a 78-77 victory in the championship of the Charlie Ryan Tourney Saturday afternoon.

Hanson became just the 9th player in Daniel Webster's program history to reach the 1,000-career point plateau Saturday against Thomas.

The first meeting ever between the two clubs would prove to be both memorable and disappointing for the Eagles (4-4), who held a 77-72 lead with 2:38 remaining.

But the Terriers (6-1) rallied as Darrell Alexander knocked down only his second bucket of the game with 1:12 remaining and the Eagles couldn't find the equalizer in the final moments.

Hanson, who joined the 1,000-point club burying two free throws with 15:43 remaining the first half, becomes just the ninth player in Eagle program history to accomplish the feat and the first since Mike Maggiacomo ‘04 reached the millennium mark in 2004.

Hanson would finish 10 of 21 from the field with four treys on the way to earning all tourney status, and was joined on the tourney team by Rookie Keith Speed, who added 10 points, nine assists, four boards and four steals in the final.

Voukides knocked down 8 of 13 from the field including a career high six from downtown (6-10) while Victor Rios added 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Jarrad DeVaughn paced Thomas with 26 points. Travis Dorsey added 14 points and a game high 15 rebounds.

The Eagles are now off until Thursday, January 7th when they host Eastern Nazarene College at 7:00 p.m.
