Robbins and Speed Take Weekly Men's Basketball Honors
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Wheelock College senior center Sherard Robbins (Malden, Mass.) was a scoring force for the Wildcats, leading his team to win the 2009 Hampton Inn Classic held at UMass Dartmouth after defeating Springfield 61-56 and UNE 68-63. Robbins was named the Tournament MVP for his efforts averaging 18.3 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game, 1.3 assists per game, 1.0 blocks per game and 2.0 steals per game. Earlier in the week, Robbins tallied a game high 29 points in their season opening victory over Wentworth 79-63. For the week, he shot 52% (27-for-52) from the field and 100% (1-for-1) from the free-throw line.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Daniel Webster College freshman
guard Keith Speed (Columbus, Ohio) averaged
15.5 points per game, 2.5 rebounds per game, 1.5 assists per game
and 1.0 steals per game assisting the Eagles to a 1-1 weekly
record. Speed shot 61% (11-for-18) from the floor, 57% (4-for-7)
from behind the arc and a perfect 100% (5-for-5) from charity
stripe.
