Elms' Andrews, Wood and Fisher Sweep First Week of Baseball Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Elms College senior infielder Mike Andrews (Greenfield, Mass.) had a stellar opening week for the Blazers, hitting safely in all seven contests including three multiple hit games. In an extra inning 13-12 win over Olivet, Andrews went three-for-four with two RBI and one homer. He batted .458 (11-for-24) with nine RBI, five runs and two doubles. Andrews finished the 4-5 week with a .667 slugging percentage, .682 on-base percentage and a .987 fielding percentage.

 

 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Elms College junior Matt Wood (Feeding Hills, Mass.) picked up two wins in 12 innings of work including a 7-4 victory over Coast Guard and 16-2 romp over Findlandia in the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.  Wood surrendered three unearned runs on 11 hits, while striking out seventeen and walking four.  He finished the spring break trip with a 2.25 ERA.

 

 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK –  Elms College freshman centerfielder Andrew Fisher (West Boylston, Mass.) opened his inaugural college campaign with batting .484 (13-for-31) with four doubles, one triples, four RBI and 15 runs scored. Fisher, the leadoff batter, had 12 walks including four in a 7-4 victory over Coast Guard. He provided a spark on the bases going five-for-five in stolen bases. Fisher slugged .548, had a .628 on-base percentage and posted a .992 fielding percentage.
