The Elms College Athletics Department Launches Its Shoe-In Campaign

CHICOPEE, Mass.-The Elms College Athletics Department, in conjunction with Campus Ministry and Admissions, will launch its Shoe-In campaign that recycles reusable shoes. The event will take place from Wednesday, September 22-29 with shoe recycling bins set up in the Maguire Center lobby, the Mary Dooley Center, at the Admissions open house (September 26) and at Chicopee Memorial State Park (September 25). All types of reusable shoes except winter boots are eligible for donation.

The goal of the campaign is to donate reusable shoes and raise money which will be donated directly to countries in Africa. By doing this we are reducing our carbon footprint, supporting micro-entrepreneurs in Africa, and diverting usable shoes from landfills to the feet of people who need them.

Anyone who donates shoes during the Sunday, September 26 Admissions open house will receive a fee waiver. Similarly, the 14 participating teams at the Blazers’ cross country invitational on Saturday, September 25 will also partake in the effort getting much of New England involved in the cause.

Together, we can make a difference.
