Regis takes Pride in Joining the New England Collegiate Conference

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Commissioner, Del Malloy announced that Regis College will become the tenth member of the conference at the close of the 2010-2011 academic year. Regis will be the first full-time member added by the NECC since its inception in the fall of 2008.

“The NECC is proud to welcome Regis College as the tenth full-time member of the Conference,” said Malloy. “Their commitment to the student-athlete, sportsmanship and equity along with a broad-based athletics program makes them compatible to our existing members in every way.”

“I am delighted,” said Regis President Mary Jane England, MD, “that the New England Collegiate Conference Athletic Directors and Conference Presidents have confirmed Regis as a full-time member of NECC.  The Conference’s commitment to the whole student-athlete, particularly with regard to academic achievement and sportsmanship, is deeply compatible with our educational values at Regis.  In addition,” she continued, “Regis students and coaches are looking forward to welcoming NECC members to our splendid new athletic facilities and letting the games begin!”  

The NECC currently sponsors conference championships in 14 sports: Baseball, Men’s & Women’s Basketball, Men’s & Women’s Cross-Country, Field Hockey, Golf, Men’s & Women’s Soccer, Softball, Men’s & Women’s Tennis and Men’s & Women’s Volleyball. Women’s Lacrosse will be added as a conference sport in 2012.

Regis College, presently a member of The Commonwealth Coast Conference, sponsors 17 sports. They have seven for men and 10 for women and will compete in all conference sports with the exception of Baseball.

"Competing within the NECC is a great opportunity for Regis,” stated Regis Athletic Director Marybeth Lamb.  “The NECC offers a great fit athletically and promotes, as we do, sportsmanship and equity. I'm looking forward to Regis competing for a conference championship very soon."

The New England Collegiate Conference has just completed its second year of operation. Current members include: Bay Path College, Becker College, Daniel Webster College, Elms College, Lesley University, Mitchell College, Newbury College, Southern Vermont College and Wheelock College.

Mission
Statement: The mission of the NECC is to provide for athletic competition among institutions that share similar academic aspirations and are committed to the importance of the total educational experience for students engaged in sports.

The NECC comprises independent institutions whose student bodies are similar in academic achievement and whose missions and curricula are similar in educational growth of its student body. The member institutions share an educational culture that seeks to foster academic excellence.

Intercollegiate athletics programs are an integral part of the life of member institutions and complement their educational objectives. Each institution provides a comprehensive, broad-based athletics program, available to all students. All varsity sports are expected to be treated equitably.

The supervision and oversight of the athletics program is vested in the President of each institution.

The day-to-day operation of the program is conducted by the administrators of athletics. Within an atmosphere of integrity and mutual trust, the member institutions pledge their commitment to the purpose and mission of the NECC
