Harrington Profiled in Sports Illustrated

Bennington, VT—Senior Southern Vermont College men’s
basketball forward Nick Harrington (Brooklyn, NY/Grady) was honored
in Sports Illustrated (SI) for his achievements this season. It is
the first student-athlete from SVC to be selected by the
prestigious publication.
“We are honored to have Nick chosen from literally thousands
of applicants and make it into the preeminent sports magazine in
the country,” said SVC Director of Athletics Benjamin Kozik.
“Nick has had an amazing basketball career and hopefully it
will continue on the professional level.”
The initial reason Harrington was nominated by the department was
his 37-point and 33- rebound performance versus Mitchell College.
Each week SI picks six athletes but only one per sport.
“What is amazing is that over the season only a select few
men’s basketball players are selected,” added Kozik.
“It is probably the hardest sport to be recognized
in.”
Harrington leads the NCAA (Division III) for the second straight
year in rebounding with 15.5 a game. He is fourth in the country in
scoring with 27.2 points per game.
“It’s so cool to be in a magazine that everyone reads
as a kid,” said Harrington. “My mom already bought four
copies. I’m in a magazine that every young athlete wants to
be in.”
Harrington concluded his career with 1,528 points and 1,026
rebounds. He leads the school in career boards and is second in
scoring.
Attached below is the excerpt from SI:
Harrington, a senior forward at Southern Vermont, scored 37 points
and had 33 rebounds in the Mountaineers' 88-77 win over Mitchell;
he is believed to be only the second Division III player to have a
30-30 game. He led the nation in rebounds last year with 13.4 per
game, and this year he is No. 1 with 15.5.
