NECC SAAC Members Volunteer at Open Pantry Community Services a Local Food Bank SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) held its first weekend retreat for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to help communicate and instruct the SAAC reps to bring back sportsmanship initiatives to their campuses. Sportsmanship was this years focus for the NECC throughout all member institutions.

ATTLEBORO, Mass.-Southern Vermont College senior forward Joe Karnik (Castleton, N.Y.) was a scoring force for the Mountaineers, leading his team to a victory in the season opener. He tallied an amazing 34 points and 13 boards to lead Southern Vermont to an 87-76 victory over Stevenson. Karnik shot 64% (14-for-22) from the field and 75% (6-for-8) from the free-throw line.

She tallied 19 points and 16 rebounds along with five steals, two assists and one block. Hunt shot 38% from the field (5-for-13) and 75% (9-for-12) from the line.

Senior midfielder Nick Johnson (Greenwich, N.Y.) scored with 13:57 remaining in the second half as the second-seeded Castleton State College mens soccer team advanced to the championship game of the 2009 ECAC Division III New England Mens Soccer Tournament with a 2-1 win over sixth-seeded Daniel Webster in a game played at Wentworth Institute of Technologys Sweeney Field.

Newbury Participates in Miles for Myles

BROOKLINE, Mass.-On Sunday, November 8, 2009 the Newbury College baseball and softball programs teamed up to take part in an NCAA sponsored event, Miles for Myles. Myles Brand the President of the NCAA passed away in a September after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. In his honor, the NCAA and the National Association for Basketball Coaches (NABA) encouraged all NCAA institutions nationwide to take part in a three-mile walk during weekend of November 7th to raise money for cancer research in honor of the passing of Brand. The three-miles were used to represent the three NCAA divisions.
