Newbury College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Volunteers at 2009 Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk
BOSTON, Mass.-The Newbury College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) volunteered their time at the 21st annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk on Sunday, September 13, 2009. Thousands of walkers participated in the event and raised more than $6 million for their efforts. Whether the participants logged 26.2, 13.1, or 5 miles; the water, snacks, and cheers they encountered at the final Water Stop before the Copley Square finish were outstanding motivation for the home stretch.
This marked Newbury's third year volunteering at the Walk and supporting the fight against cancer. Part of the Nighthawk SAAC mission is to service the community; and based on the smiles on the faces of the walkers, they did just that. Director of Athletics, Peter Centola is "very proud of SAAC coordinator Christine Grenache that the event was such a success. The representation of nearly half of all student-athletes at Newbury is an outstanding model of character and service for the entire college community."
