Lesley SAAC Fall Semester Recap

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lesley University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) ramped up their efforts to past fall semester to engage the Lesley community in student-athlete happenings with several on campus events. Some of these included the Fall Kick Off, Halloween Dance, Turkey Drive, and a 3 vs. 3 Basketball Tournament.

Fall Kick Off

The fall semester started off with a bang as SAAC organized a two-day Fall Kick Off that started with a giant showing of support the Lesley University soccer teams against Mount Ida College. Both teams ended up victorious against the Mustangs with the men's soccer team winning in dramatic fashion with a game-winning goal in the second overtime.

The following day, SAAC held a carnival-style party on the Quad Campus with a live band, a money pit, a dunk tank, and several table vendors.

Halloween Dance

The SAAC Halloween Dance was one of many fundraising events held to raise many for SAAC's May 2010 trip to New Orleans to take part in Hope for Stanley, a group relief effort in a part of the country where Hurricane Katrina caused so much damage. Students from the Boston area came to the dance and donated money with or without costume that went towards this worthy cause.

Turkey Drive

Right before Thanksgiving, SAAC held a Turkey Drive that collected several frozen turkeys, hams, and canned goods that were delivered to the CASPAR shelter in Somerville, Massachusetts. The CASPAR shelter, a non-profit organization founded in 1970, was created in response to the need for community-based services for those affected by substance use disorders. SAAC's efforts around the busy holiday season surely helped CASPAR provide a better services for the people they serve.

3 vs. 3 Basketball Tournament

Finally, before the Lesley students hit the books hard for their final exams, SAAC organized a 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament where all the entrance fee money went towards the Hope for Stanley cause once again. Students were allowed team up with classmates, staff members, alumni, and even faculty in the tournament. Overall, 16 teams competed on this fun-filled day of activity.
