NECC SAAC Raises $6,756 for Breast Cancer Research

ATTLEBORO, Mass.-In the inaugural year of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) the first year Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) voted on and approved their conference wide initiative to design and sell "Pink-Out" t-shirts to help raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Dallas, Texas, to support Breast Cancer Research.

"We are extremely proud of the efforts of conference SAAC and the sensitivity they showed throughout the initiative," said Commissioner Del Malloy. "We would also like to thank each member institution's administration, coaches and student-athletes."

All nine member institutions participated and hosted campus events in conjunction with the "Pink-Out" initiative and were able to raise an amazing $6,756 by selling t-shirts and collecting other donations at each event or game.

NECC SAAC President Adam Northup (Southern Vermont College) stated, "Even though we are rivals during the season, it's nice to know we can team up to give something back to the community.  It is important to remember that we are all a part of the larger community, and despite our differences, we can make a difference in someone's life by helping each other out as well as the community."

Conference SAAC members took their ideas back to campus and three designs were voted upon and approved on-line as the 2008-2009 "Pink-Out" winner. The winning ideas came from student-athletes from Elms College and Lesley University.

"The initiative each school took within itself was very promising.  We have a lot of good students with good hearts and I know this success will carry over into the future, "said Northup.
